[ hewwo shoma we are at the food court. despite the week's lingering effect, ichiban actually isn't here to eat! no, he's here to visit the catbots. he's found himself surrounded by a small group, crouching in the middle of them like he's hosting a meeting. ]

You guys all better after what happened the past couple days?

[solesuccess]

[ you know this is...so valid of him. he'd come by just to grab a snack, but now he's more interested in what this nerd's doing so he lingers for a moment to watch. the kittybots are attentive, and they probably go (=｀ω´=) when ichiban asks after their health.

and shoma just grins a little from behind him. ]

They should be safe now, at least. I doubt anybody else is going to come through and scare them.

[ somehow, ichiban isn't surprised to hear shoma's voice behind him. he pats one of the catbots as he turns around to greet his fellow crewmate with a grin. ]

Hehe, glad to hear it. But if anyone else wants to try comin' at 'em, they'll have to go through me first!

[ the kittybots go !Σ(=°ロ°=) after this bold declaration! ]

[ he's so amused by these catbots still, but he does kind of tilt his head a little at that declaration, too. ]

Said like someone used to defending the little guys.

[ why can't they take some home wehhhh ]

You know it. I'll always step in for anyone who can't defend themselves. I don't tolerate bullies, especially if they're old enough to know damn well what they're doing.

[ this shounen-ass speech really does get him to continue to stare at ichiban for a moment like he's trying to decide if he's for real or not. ]

...sounds like a big job for one person. [ people suck? does ichiban know people actually suck? ]

[ oh sweet shoma you have no idea. ]

Guess what? I'm a big guy.

[ that does kind of get a laugh out of him though. ]

And I'm sure that helps. [ he considers this for a moment. ] Don't take this the wrong way or anything Ichiban, but why is it that you do what you do?

[ he stands up. ]

Simple as that. Some people want more money than they'll ever know what to do with, others want enough power to rule an entire country... me? I just wanna be me. If I can make someone, anyone's life better in some way... that's enough.

[frotag]

[ ... once he's gotten that out of his system, though, he pauses and turns a little sheepish. ]

Man, I really just said all that out loud, didn't I? What am I, an after school PSA...

[solesuccess]

[ buddy. he's like. not sure if he should clap or what to do here, but he tilts his head. ]

Nah, you're missing the motivational orchestral music. [ thanks. ] It's...not a bad sentiment though. Most people wouldn't even mean it.

[ oh, it's definitely playing in his head, but he does not say that aloud. ]

You know what they say—be the change you wanna be. [ ... ] But you probably don't wanna hear an old dude like me telling you how to live your life.

[ there's a half-smile. ]

I get a lot of unsolicited advice for my age. But I did ask, so...I think that's a little different. Besides, I don't think it's necessarily a bad way to be on this ship.
